Organic Herbs: Chives Planting Instructions:

Chives prefer full sun and soil that is moist, fertile, and well-draining. Plant seeds 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost, or as soon as the soil is workable in the spring. Sow 1/4 inch deep and 8 to 10" apart. When the plants are 2" tall, thin to 12" apart. If starting indoors, seeds may be planted 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost. Grow time is 60 days.

Organic Herbs: Chives Harvesting Instructions:

Foliage is ready for harvest when the outer spears of the chives are at least 6" long. Cut them back to 2" above ground level. Once or twice per season, shear the plants to this height. Doing so will keep new, tender foliage available. Flowers are ready to harvest and eat when they are in full bloom, but before the bud has opened.
Divide the plants every 3 to 4 years in the spring for best results.
