Organic: Roma Tomato Planting Instructions:
Start seeds indoors 5 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Plant seeds 1/8" deep in good potting soil and keep them warm and moist. Transplant outdoors 30-36" apart. Keep transplants outside during the day and bring in at night to harden the young plants. Before you begin transplanting, nighttime temperatures should be consistently above 45 F. When transplanting, use black plastic mulch, row covers, hot caps, or other protection to warm the soil in the early season. Remove the covers whenever temperatures exceed 85 F. Water the plants as needed.
Organic: Roma Tomato Harvesting Instructions:
For the best flavor, allow the plants to ripen on the vine before harvesting. When harvested this way, tomatoes have a fuller flavor than those that are picked early and ripen after harvesting. Watch the bottoms of tomatoes carefully to assess the ripeness of the fruit. Harvest your tomatoes when the skin still looks smooth and waxy.
Did You Know This About Organic Roma Tomato?
Unlike other types of tomatoes, Roma tomatoes ripen all at once. Most other tomatoes ripen from the bottom up over time. In the American colonies, people thought that tomatoes were poisonous, because of its membership in the otherwise deadly nightshade family.
